Osteochondroma
Question:

I am a 38-year-old female with osteochondroma. Is this dangerous for my health? Sometimes I have high blood pressure, the reason of which is not yet clear. Sometimes, my left cheek and hand are numb.

I am studying but suddenly my blood pressure has increased. Is this due to my osteochondroma? Should I finish my study?

Doctor George's reply:

Osteochondromas are the most common benign bone tumors. They need no treatment unless you have symptoms like pain or neurologic symptoms due to compression, in which case the lesion is excised. You should also have regular monitoring by x-ray to detect transformation to malignant growth early.

Have you been diagnosed with hypertension? That your blood pressure rises does not necessarily mean you have hypertension. Normally, our blood pressure rise with excitement, anxiety, fear, etc. At any rate, you should be worked up for this to find out the cause. And even if you have been diagnosed with hypertension, you need not quit school. Lifestyle modification and drugs can be prescribed you to control this. Talk to your doctor about your options.
