Question:
I am a 29-year-old male who sustained a wrist fracture 15 years ago. Recently, I noticed a small lump the size of a quarter on the same wrist at the back side of my hand where my watch normally would be. I asked a paramedic friend of mine and she said it looked like a calcium deposit. Is there anything I can do about it? Should I consult my physician?
Doctor George's reply:
It’s probably a ganglion cyst, and your previous trauma might have caused it. If it causes no significant discomfort, a small cyst is observed. If it causes pain and limitation of motion though, pain medications and splinting can be done, it can be aspirated or surgically removed. I recommend that you see a doctor so that the mass can be inspected and the diagnosis confirmed.
